CURRENT STUDIES
The simple revolution is here. From the iPod design to Google’s uncluttered homepage, simple ideas are changing the world. Multi-awarded #1 national bestseller Simple Church guides Christians back to the simple gospel-sharing methods of Jesus. No bells or whistles required. Based on case studies of 400 American churches, Thom Rainer and Eric Geiger prove the disciple-making process is often too complex. Simple churches thrive by taking four ideas to heart: Clarity. Movement. Alignment. Focus. Join the men at Butch Snyder’s home (87 Spindrift Trail, KH), Monday night’s at 7:00pm, as we discuss and discern what this text means for our personal ministry as well as the local church’s. This weekly Bible study meets each Tuesday at 10:00am in the Spring Arbor Assisted Living Facility in KDH. This study is open to those living in the facility as well as those who do not. The discussions are always lively and there is no preparation work to be done before our weekly gatherings. We read scripture together and discuss it as we go. Communion is celebrated on the third Tuesday of each month at 10:30am and we are invited to stay and share in the community’s lunch for $5.
PREVIOUS STUDIES
Lord, Teach Me to Pray by Kay Arthur is a 5-session women’s bible study, Monday nights at 6:30pm, (June 6 – July 11) with a personal devotion experience five days a week. Learn what the Lord’s Prayer teaches us about effective prayer and how to put into practice its timeless principles. What you learn will be yours to practice for a lifetime, just as Jesus intended when He taught His disciples how to pray.
During the 7-week, Monday night study (Feb. 21 – April 4), He Speaks to Me: Preparing to Hear from God, Priscilla Shirer related six characteristics found in Samuel that are applicable to women today as they tune their hearts to hear God’s voice. These characteristics are: A Simple Relationship, A Set Apart Holiness, A Still Attentiveness, A Single-Minded Worship, A Sold Out Hunger, and A Servant’s Spirit. By listening to God’s voice and obeying Him, women will be drawn into a closer relationship to God that brings a deeper desire to serve Him faithfully.
Revelation is the most misunderstood book in the Bible. Many read it and think it’s the end of the world. Others read it and think it’s a message of hope for the future. Most read it and don’t know what to think. We had a wonderful discussion around this “mysterious” book each Sunday from November 7 – December 19 at 6:32pm. Review the discussions and the resources we used here and decide for yourself…is it a message of horror or new hope?
Vision is a preferred future. A destination. According to author Andy Stanley, Visioneering is “a clear mental picture of what could be, fueled by the conviction that it should be.” With warm, down-to-earth practicality, Andy Stanley explores the ordinary life of Nehemiah and his God-given vision for accomplishing the extraordinary. He shows how the life of this great ancient visionary, determined to rebuild the ruined walls of Jerusalem, reveals principles that can prepare us to find and follow God’s multifaceted vision for our own lives. Beginning on January 31, our men’s group studied this text each Monday night from 7:00pm-8:30pm.
A Heart Like His: Seeking the Heart of God Through a Study of David by Beth Moore was an opportunity for us to explore the pastures, caves, and palace of one of the most well known figures in history. David is sure to capture your interest if you let him and God is sure to change your heart — if you let Him. This exciting and intimate journey to know King David focused on his years as God’s chosen king of Israel. David’s life clearly demonstrates that God is always able to reach us, correct us, and reclaim our worship. If you’ve ever experienced doubts, temptations, losses, personal inconsistencies, or if you’ve anguished over family problems, this study would speak to you.
What do we do when God interrupts our lives? Many times, like Jonah, we run! In this 7-session, men-only, Bible study, Priscilla Shier redefines interruption and shows that interruption is actually God’s invitation to do something beyond our wildest dreams. When Jonah was willing to allow God to interrupt his life, the result was revival in an entire city.
Chapters in The Marriage Checkup by Norman Wright guided the discussion of our relationships and how we might strengthen areas that need attention while celebrating areas that are doing just fine.
