Children’s Ministry

The Third Annual Easter Egg Hunt at Roanoke Island Festival Park was held April 22 at 1:00pm. There were mascots from across the OBX. Any non-perishable food items brought were donated to the Albemarle Food Bank and monetary donations were accepted for Outer Banks Relay for Life. This was a free event.

Mighty Wind and the United Methodist Church are taking prudent steps to ensure that each and every UM Church is considered a “safe sanctuary” for children. We are taking intentional strides to ensure that our children are taken care of the most safe and secure environment possible, both physically and emotionally. Follow the icon link to find out what strides we’re taking, what is expected of you if you expect to minister to our children, and how to take the first steps towards being in ministry with children.

Nursery care is provided at all Sunday morning worship services for children in grades 0-kindergarten. We are a Safe Sanctuaries church.

We offer a worshipful educational opportunity during worship for children in grades 1-5. The children engage the Bible in various ways including: story telling, drawing, coloring, drama, crafts, walk-a-bouts, and music. These children are asked to enter worship with their parents, come forward to the altar as we begin the lesson portion of our worship, and when dismissed from the worship lesson (the Children’s Lesson), they are invited to attend Children’s Church for the remainder of worship. We are a Safe Sanctuaries church.

On the Sunday before the new school year begins, we invite all the people heading back to school to come forward with their “bags” for a blessing as they head into a new year of teaching, learning, and transforming. The blessing is for teachers, students, and other school faculty & staff.

At Hero HeadQuarters Vacation Bible School from July 12-16, kids met unlikely Bible heroes who are often overlooked. In fact, we don’t know a single one of their names! They were not famous leaders or called by God to perform amazing miracles—yet their small acts were used by God to do wonderful things! Kids were helped to discover that if they’re willing to be used by God in any situation, no matter how big or small, they can make a difference. With God’s power at work, they can be heroes right where they are!
